Stay & spend scheme

stay & spend scheme

To promote irish tourism, the Government have announced the new ‘Stay and Spend Incentive’

Fota Island Resort is proud to be part of the Government Stay & Spend Scheme which allows any taxpayer who spends at least €25 in a single transaction on ‘qualifying expenditure’ between 1 October 2020 and 30 April 2021 to claim the Stay and Spend tax credit.

Resort guests that spend up from €25 to €625 or €1,250 as a married-couple to earn a tax credit equal to 20% of qualifying expenditure on accommodation, food and non-alcoholic beverages up to a maximum of €125. This amount will be doubled for jointly assessed couples who can receive a credit of up to €250

Under the terms of the incentive:

  • Guests must spend a minimum of €25 in a single transaction on qualifying expenditure and submit the receipt to Revenue
  • Guests can submit receipts up to a total of €625, or €1,250 for a jointly-assessed married couple
  • Revenue will provide an income tax credit of up to €125 per person, or up to €250 for a jointly-assessed married couple

Resort guests do not need to be on a ‘staycation’ to avail of the scheme. Guests may alternatively claim for expenses paid in dining outlets as they meet the definition of qualifying expenditure – including accommodation, food, and non-alcoholic beverages.
