On Sunday 2nd September with the sun finally shining, our much anticipated Wedding Showcase took place here at the Fota Island Resort in Cork.

We had approximately 140 brides in attendance throughout the day, each one accompanied by a supportive spouse, parent or friend, and as they arrived to our exquisite wedding venue in Cork they were greeted by a red carpet welcome, an awaiting concierge in a top hat and coat tails and a complimentary glass of champagne, wine or sparkling water.

Inside, guests could talk to the finest photographers, stationers, wedding planners, make-up artists, bakers, jewellers, department stores, travel agents and musicians, as well as availing of free manicures at our very own Leisure and Spa stand, enjoying a complimentary tea or coffee and a sweet treat in the clubhouse and spend some time talking to our wedding coordinator and her team about the wedding packages at Fota Island Resort.

Guests were also able to access and attend our very popular wedding forums; Wedding Planning by Karen Buchanan, Hair and Make Up Advice by Leonard Daly, Menu Planning by our very own Executive Head Chef Craig Coady and Travel and Honeymoon Destinations by Linda Cronin of Lee Travel.

Also in attendance and mingling with guests throughout the day was the Cork Rose of 2012, Brid Ryan, who posed for pictures and chatted with guests and our male and female models, who were dressed in some of the supplier’s amazing collections.

Outside the main doors waiting to transport guests from our Cork hotel to our wonderful golf clubhouse, which offers a uniquely different setting for intimate weddings was a collection of exquisite vintage and classic cars, all decorated with ribbons and each with its dressed to impress chauffer.

We couldn’t have wished for a more perfect day, the sun was shining, spirits and attendance was high and everyone involved, whether guest, supplier or staff thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Cork- My home away from home

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

Hello readers!

My time here at Fota Island Resort, a 5 Star hotel with Golf course Ireland is going so fast! Last week was a really busy so when the weekend came I couldn’t be more excited! After work we took a bus to Dublin. I was looking forward to a great weekend with my friends and celebrating my birthday.

A weekend is a little bit too short time to visit Dublin. The City is big with a lot of things to do and places to see. I’m a really bad navigator so it was hard for me to try to get to know your way around the city. On Friday evening I found myself lost trying to find my way back to my hostel… There is a huge needle shaped tower in the centre of Dublin. The Spire is the perfect landmark but it doesn’t help if you’re walking to the wrong direction. After a restless night sleep I was thrilled to see the city in daylight.

On Saturday morning the sun was shining and we took a walk around the city area and did some shopping on the famous Grafton Street. Of course I didn’t waist any time using my birthday as an excuse for buying new shoes!

One of the most famous places in Dublin is the Temple Bar area where you will find a lot of pubs, bars and nightclubs but it’s also the home of artist studios and small art productions. I was told beforehand that the Temple bar area is mostly visited by tourists and you can’t find the proper Irish atmosphere from there. I have to agree with some of that. The places around the area are overpriced and you really don’t get that welcoming feeling from there. The best part of the area was the highly talented streets performers who entertained us with singing, playing instruments and posing as human statues.

On Saturday evening we had the party and went listening to some live music and it was great! I was glad to see my friends after a long time and we had a great time in Dublin but I was really happy to return to my home in Cork!

Next weekend I’m staying at the 5 Star Wedding Hotel Cork and I’m really hoping that it would already be Sunday! 26th of February is finally the day for Fota Island Resort Wedding Showcase. Hope you will join us for this fun day! You still have time to sign up using our online application form or you can call the resort +353 (0)21 488 3700.
