CORK

The largest county of Ireland, Cork is in the south western corner of Ireland and its remote westerly region of West Cork is renowned for having some of the most spectacular coastal scenery in Ireland. Within Cork you can explore Ireland’s most southerly point; Mizen Head, as well as many popular attractions such as Blarney Castle with its Blarney Stone, which is said to give the gift of eloquence to all who kiss it. Cork also includes attractions such as Charles Fort in Kinsale, Bantry House, Skibbereen Heritage Centre, Gougane Barra Park, Dingle Peninsula, Skellig Michael and attractions close to us here at Fota Island Resort such as the Titanic Experience at Cobh, the Jameson Factory at Midleton, and Fota House and Fota Wildlife Park.

CLARE

The County of Clare is renowned for its heritage in traditional Irish music and for its wealth of wonderful scenery. Located on the far west coast of Ireland, Clare is home to some of Ireland most recognisable attractions such as the Cliffs of Moher, the Neolithic tomb, the Poulnabrone Dolman and Bunratty Castle and Heritage Park. Clare is also home to the Burren, a unique landscape of limestone that in spring time is covered with bright and beautiful plant life.

KERRY

County Kerry, located in the south western tip of Ireland is known for its natural enchanting beauty, rugged countryside, splendid lakes and valleys, and its many mountains; including the highest mountain in Ireland, Carrantouhil, which is backdrop to the wonderful Killarney National Park. As well as Killarney and the Killarney National Park, popular attractions in Kerry include Gap of Dunloe, the Ring of Kerry, Torc Mountain Walk and further out to the west of the county Kerry is Dingle, which is Europe’s most westerly peninsula and home to the second largest mountain in Ireland, Mount Brandon.

LIMERICK

County Limerick, apart from the mountains that boarder Tipperary is mostly low-lying charming countryside and farmland set alongside the River Shannon. Set amidst the rural landscape is Adare, thought to one Ireland’s prettiest villages and one of Ireland’s most important archaeological sites, Lough Gur, which has the remains of a settlement from over 5000 years ago. In contrast to rural countryside, County Limerick is also home to the vibrant cultural city of Limerick and home to the provincial rugby team, Munster Rugby who have been and continue to be extremely successful in Europe.

TIPPERARY

A landlocked county of rich farmland and raised bogland, Tipperary is Ireland’s largest inland county and home to the Galtee Mountains, Tipperary Town, Clonmel, Cahir, Thurles and Cashel, known for the famous the Rock of Cashel, which is an impressive 12th century fortress and abbey.

WATERFORD

County Waterford is renowned for being the home of Waterford Crystal, but it is also known for its wonderful coastal retreats of Tramore, Annestown, Bunmahon, Stradbally and Clonea. A picturesque county that is home to Waterford City, which is a principal seaport of the South East, County Waterford has many enchanting mountains and woodlands to explore such as Comeragh and Knockmealdown as well as many medieval towns and castles such as Ardmore and Lismore, which was the inspiration for one of Waterford Crystals most popular cuts and collections.
